Eagle Scout Service Project: Ty’s Shore Road Park Restoration

When:

Location: Shore Road Park, 79th St Entrance, Brooklyn

Scout Ty is leading a two-day Eagle Scout Service Project focused on environmental restoration and drainage improvement in Shore Road Park near the 79th Street basketball courts. The project will help prevent flooding, beautify the area, and protect local ecosystems. Scouts and volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful service and gain hands-on experience in trail improvement and gardening work.

Class B uniforms or work clothes recommended.
Bring gloves and prepare to get dirty!

📅 Day 1: Drainage System Cleanup & Boarding

Saturday, September 27, 2025
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

🔹 Setup & Check-In

• 8:30 AM at Shore Road Park, 79th Street entrance (left of the basketball courts)

🔹 Role Assignment – 9:30 AM

Volunteers will be split into two teams:

Team 1: Drainage Removal & Site Security

• Tools Needed: Garbage bags, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, gloves, traffic cones, caution tape
• Tasks:
  1. Block off the area with cones and caution tape to ensure safety
  2. Clear waste and debris from the drainage pathway
  3. Transport collected materials to dumpsters

Team 2: Drainage Boarding (Older Scouts & Adults Only)

• Tools Needed: Rebar stakes, wood planks, hammers, gloves
• Tasks:
  1. Position pressure-treated wood boards to block future debris
  2. Hammer rebar stakes to secure planks along the drain
  3. Cover the area from the drain to the first tree uphill

🔹 Sign-Out & Clean-Up – 12:00 PM

📅 Day 2: Flower Planting

8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

🔹 Setup & Check-In

• 8:30 AM at same location as Day 1

🔹 Role Assignment – 9:30 AM

Volunteers will assist with garden planting under the guidance of Mrs. Michelle Del Pin.

🔹 Activities

• Tools Needed: Spades, gloves, watering cans, plants, shovels, trash bags
• Steps:
  1. Orientation on planting technique
  2. Dig holes and plant flowers
  3. Water plants for healthy growth

🔹 Sign-Out & Clean-Up – 12:00 PM

🧰 Additional Notes

• First Aid Kit will be available on site
• Please wear Class B uniform or clothing suitable for outdoor manual work
• Community service hours can be signed off by project leader
