The GNYC Training Extravaganza (TREX) is one of the largest and most comprehensive Scouting training events in the Greater New York Councils calendar. Held annually, TREX brings together Scouts, parents, adult leaders, and volunteers from across all five boroughs for a full day of learning, skills development, and shared experience.
TREX 2026 is shaping up to be the most expansive yet, offering nearly 70 sessions spanning every corner of the Scouting program, including Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, Order of the Arrow, and Exploring. The event is designed so that everyone involved in Scouting can find something valuable, regardless of age, role, or experience level.
We strongly encourage Scouts, parents, and adult leaders to take part in this event.
For Scouts, TREX offers opportunities that go beyond regular troop meetings, including merit badge sessions, personal development workshops, and exposure to real-world skills that connect Scouting with future careers and life after high school.
For parents and adult leaders, TREX is an unmatched opportunity to learn from experienced Scouters, discover best practices from other units, and bring new ideas back to our troop. Many sessions focus on strengthening units, supporting youth leadership, and making Scouting more engaging and sustainable.
This is also a great chance to see the broader Scouting community in action and understand how Troop 23 fits into the larger GNYC program.
TREX is intentionally broad in scope, allowing participants to mix practical skills with leadership development and big-picture Scouting concepts.
Registration is individual and must be completed independently.
Troop 23 does not register participants as a group.
We strongly recommend registering early to secure preferred classes.
Official event registration and details are available on the GNYC registration site.
Although registration is individual, Troop 23 will travel together.
We will meet in the morning at Bay Ridge Avenue station (R train) and take the subway together into Manhattan. Exact meetup time and platform details will be shared closer to the event date.
This group travel plan is optional but encouraged, especially for younger Scouts, as it allows us to arrive together, navigate the venue as a group, and support each other throughout the day.
Class A Uniform.
TREX is more than just a training day. It is a reminder that Scouting is a living, evolving movement built by people who care deeply about youth development, leadership, and community.
Whether you are earning a merit badge, learning how to better support your Scout, or bringing new ideas back to Troop 23, this is a high-value event that benefits the entire troop.
We strongly encourage participation and look forward to attending together.
