Location: Ten Mile River Scout Camps

Every February the Troop goes upstate for a weekend in a cabin. Scouts sleep under a roof with a stove going, and a Scout who wants a real winter night can pitch a tent outside, once the adults have checked that the gear is up to the cold. The daylight goes outside in the snow — hiking, sledding, and learning what cold-weather camping actually asks of you.

On this trip the adults are the cooks. A Scout who wants to cook for a rank requirement can, and the Scouts take on KP, the cleanup after every meal, and the other camp chores.

It is a good first winter trip for a newer Scout. The cabin removes the hardest part of winter camping, and what is left is the fun part.
