SPL Elections Process

Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) is the most impactful youth leadership role in the troop. To ensure that scouts have a voice in selecting their leaders, Troop 23 holds semi-annual elections, typically supervised by adult leaders (who do not vote).

Participation in elections is required to be an active member of the troop’s leadership process.

Election Steps

Nominations
Scouts receive a blank ballot and may nominate up to three candidates. Consider who can best represent your patrol and lead the troop with responsibility and Scout Spirit.

Nomination Tally
Those with the most nominations become official candidates.

Candidate Speeches
Each candidate has 15 minutes to prepare a brief 2-minute speech outlining their leadership goals and vision for the troop.

Voting
Each scout casts one vote for the candidate they believe will best fulfill the role.

The election process encourages scouts to reflect on what leadership means and how they can contribute to a stronger troop community.
