Camping Gear & Equipment

A well-prepared patrol ensures a smooth and safe camping experience for everyone. To help Quartermasters (QMs) and Patrol Leaders fulfill their responsibilities, we've compiled a detailed list of essential equipment and shared troop items. This checklist should be reviewed and packed before every trip, and inspected by the QM as part of the pre-trip duties.

🟦 Patrol Kit (Stored in Patrol Bin)

• Stove and gas
• Utensils in bag, including:
  • Knives
  • Tongs
  • Can opener
  • Serving spoon
• Fire gloves
• Sanitizer
• Biodegradable soap
• Cutting board
• Medium pot
• Medium pan
• Additional pot or pan (e.g. cast iron) — case-by-case
• Paper towels
• Collapsible camping kitchen table
• Water jug
• Lighter or matches

🟩 KP Kit (Shared, Stored in Bin)

• Large pot to boil water
• Three wash basins — for 3-bucket method:
  • Wash
  • Rinse
  • Sanitize
• Dish detergent
• Sponge
• Tongs (for handling hot KP items)
• Scrub pad
• Bleach or sanitizer tablets
• Microfiber towel
• Shovel for ashes
• Garbage bags

🟥 Troop-Shared Items (Also in Shared Bin)

• Lanterns and/or string lights
• American flag
• Troop flag
• Spice box
• Cooking oil
• Rain fly (large tarp)
• Rope / extra line
• Repair kit (zip ties, duct tape)

📝 Tip for Quartermasters: It’s helpful to run through this checklist with your patrol before departure, and again during clean-up after the trip. Clean, dry, and organized gear ensures a better start next time.
