Location: Poconos/Jim Thorpe, PA

Troop 23 is headed back to the Poconos for a high-adrenaline Super Scout Day on the Lehigh River! This Class III whitewater rafting trip is organized exclusively for Scouts by Whitewater Rafting Adventures and features guided rafts, all necessary equipment, and (if needed) free wetsuit rentals for youth. Expect real rapids — this is not a lazy river! 

This is the same outfitter we partnered with in 2023 during our epic summer trip. This year’s rafting trip will take place on a dam release date, ensuring exciting conditions on the water and plenty of splashes! We'll paddle approximately 10 miles downriver with professional guides, hitting exciting drops and riffles throughout the dam-release-enhanced course.

All safety gear is provided, and wetsuit rentals are free for scouts, if needed. This event is not for the timid — T23 doesn’t settle for ripples!

This trip also fulfills advancement requirements:

• First Class 1b – Tread Lightly participation
• First Class 6b & 6c – Paddlecraft requirements

Cost $67.45 per person, payable by Monday, May 5

Meet at OLA: 7:30 AM sharp
Rafting Check-in Deadline: 11:15 AM
Return: Evening the same day (in time to rest up for the Mother’s Day Flower Sale on Sunday!)

This is a day trip only — no camping — to make it accessible for more families and keep Sunday free for troop fundraising.

Who Can Join

Scouts, Scout Parents, and friends are welcome to join. As always, we encourage maximum participation!

Transportation

We will coordinate carpools. Parent drivers are greatly appreciated. Please indicate your ability to help when RSVPing.

Food

Bring your own lunch, snack, and drinks. There are no amenities once you're on the water, so come prepared. We'll stop for lunch during the rafting portion.

Packing List

Warm weather: bathing suit, nylon shorts, synthetic shirt, old sneakers or secure water shoes
Cool weather: no cotton! Wear synthetic materials like nylon, fleece, or wool
Mandatory: footwear with heel straps — no flip-flops!
Bring: towel, sunscreen, dry change of clothes

Dress for a wet day!

• ⧠ Bathing suit, synthetic clothing (no cotton)
• ⧠ Sunscreen, towel, dry clothes for after the trip
• ⧠ Packed lunch, snack, and water bottle
• ⧠ Rain gear if needed (the trip runs rain or shine)

Whitewater Rafting Adventures

Whitewater Adventure outfitter, which is the same we used in the past. Note that this is a DAM RELEASE date. Yeah. Thus, we're assured of good conditions (for getting Mr. Wong wet). 

Rafting, per the outfitter, is rain or shine, but they reserve the right to alter our reservation in the case of extreme weather conditions. As usual, Be Prepared in your packing of clothing and gear considering the weather conditions and activities. Given the activity on the water and rain in the forecast, be particularly prepared with rain gear, synthetic clothing, and water shoes/old sneakers. No flip-flops or one-toe shoes. Once on the water, there is no access to amenities; bring hydration and snacks.
